Unsurprisingly it is Mykhaylo Mudryk that tops the bookies’ odds list for incomings at Arsenal in January. The Shakhtar Donetsk winger is the priority signing for Mikel Arteta.
He is closely followed by Joao Felix though, with reports suggesting he isn’t just an alternative to Mudryk but also a player they wish to bring in as well as the Ukrainian.
Outside that pair as the top two Youri Tielemans is still strongly linked due to his contract expiring at the end of the season and the chance for the Gunners to get him at a cut-price this window. Barcelona’s Ferran Torres comes in at fourth favourite.
Arteta makes Marquinhos choice
Described as “one for the future” by Edu upon his signing, Marquinhos has taken a back seat since joining over the summer. Whereas the other first team signings have largely been front and centre he has had to wait patiently.
Having allowed a group of first team players to leave in January last year, then stretching the squad thin towards the end of the season, Arteta appears to have learnt a valuable lesson and it indicates Marquinhos will remain despite a lack of first team minutes.
He said last month, “We know where we are in terms of the squad and the numbers that we have. So we’re going to be extremely cautious about what we are going to do in this window
