Arsenal are interested in Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as they consider a late move to lure him across London before the deadline.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Arsenal have expressed an interest in a late deal for Jorginho.
The Gunners are desperate to add another midfielder with Mohamed Elneny facing a spell on the sidelines through injury.
Thomas Partey needs cover and competition, so Arsenal have been making a real push to sign Brighton and Hove Albion ace Moises Caicedo.
Yet with that deal looking very difficult ahead of the transfer deadline, Arsenal are considering other options.
Jorginho is one name Arsenal are strongly considering, given that he is out of contract at the end of the season.
The next 24 hours give Chelsea one final chance to bring in some cash for Jorginho before he can leave for absolutely nothing.
Arsenal are seemingly hoping to take advantage with a cheap deal in the final hours of the transfer window, with Chelsea trying to bring in a new midfielder themselves in Enzo Fernandez.
Arsenal’s interest in Jorginho goes way back
Gunners fans are no strangers to rumours surrounding the potential arrival of Jorginho.
Back in October 2020, Arsenal were interested in luring Jorginho to the Emirates Stadium according to Sky Sports.
It was noted that Mikel Arteta served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City when they tried to sign Jorginho from Napoli.
The deal wasn’t possible and Arsenal went on to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid instead.
Arteta may well have continued his admiration for Jorginho, and this could finally be Arsenal’s time to strike for the Italian.
Chelsea paid £57million for Jorginho in 2018 and Arsenal may now feel that they can land him for a knockdown price in the coming hours.
Caicedo is surely still the priority, but Jorginho now represents another interesting option ahead of the transfer deadline.
